=Biography= Shirley Winston Johns was the youngest child of John Jay Johns and Jane Amanda Durfee. He working in newspapers, as did many of his family. He married Louise Martin, daughter of the town's minister, Edward Martin. Shirley and Louise had a daughter, Jane Durfee in 1898, followed by a stillborn child in 1900. Shirley died of tuberculosis in 1909 in St. Charles.
