Biography

LOIS E. GAUSS was born on Oct. 3, 1888 in San Antonio, Texas to Charles Henry Gauss and Lizzie Johns. They returned to Missouri in 1895, living first with his grandparents in Columbia Town of Boone County, where he attended school (1900 Census #137), and then St. Louis and St. Charles (by 1906/09). She taught school in St. Charles (1910 census #109), while living in her parents home (701 Tomkins). Lois E. Gauss married Arnold Simmons on March 4, 1918 in St. Charles. They lived in Miami, Florida where their daughters were born: Elizabeth Johns Simmons (5/18/1922-, m. Arnold Burchsted 10/2/1944 Miami) and Lois Winston Simmons (8/25/1924- ). Lois Gauss died in October 1966 in Knoxville, Tennessee.
