Biographical sketch

SOPHIA ALEXANDER CAMPBELL (McCLUER) was born on June 22, 1795 to Sally Alexander and Samuel L. Campbell at Lexington, Rockbridge County, Virginia. In 1816 Sophia married Dr. Robert McCluer at Natural Bridge, Virginia. In 1829 they moved to Dardenne, St. Charles, Missouri (Bryan and Rose 1876:171). After her husband's death she moved their family to St. Charles. After her son's (Samuel C. McCluer) married, she lived with his household at Nutshell near Dardenne. There she died on January 2, 1867 and is buried at the Old Dardenne Presbyterian Church cemetery.
