| Short Description | Alfred Johns built his plantation, calling it Chevy Chase, near the present location of Clinton, Mississippi in Hinds County.
"Chevy Chase" was the name of the home place of a large and typical Southern family. It is situated fifteen miles north of Jackson, Mississippi, and thirty-five miles East of Vicksburg. Chevy Chase was known far and wide for its beautiful and picturesque views. I have arbitrarily located Chevy Chase Plantation about 15 miles north of Jackson, Mississippi and 35 miles east of Vicksberg, near a creek. The plantation is gone, now, and this will have to do until I can find out more information. --SDC |
