Russell L. Shadoan
Russell L. Shadoan, 81, 1411 Milligan Highway, Johnson City, died Sunday, January 26, 2003.
Mr. Shadoan was a native of Pulaski County, Ky., and the son of the late Oscar Thomas and Elizabeth Woodson Shadoan. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Ann Etta Simmons Shadoan, June 28, 2000, two brothers, Thomas Shadoan and Leslie Shadoan, and a sister, Irene Osborne.
Mr. Shadoan was a member of Hopwood Christian Church. He graduated from Eastern Kentucky University with Bachelor of Science and Master of Arts Degrees and was a retired teacher from University School.
He was a former member and past president of the Johnson City Kiwanis Club, a member of Watauga Masonic Lodge, a York Rite and Scottish Rite Mason, a member of the Jericho Shrine Temple, where he had been a member and past Commander of the Jericho Legion of Honor, a member of the Royal Order of Jesters, Court 183, and a member of the Unaka Rod and Gun Club.
Mr. Shadoan was a veteran of World War II, having served with the U.S. Army Air Corps, and was stationed in Okinawa. He had retired with the rank of Captain from the U.S. Army with 33 years of service, including 15 years in the Tennessee National Guard.
Survivors include three daughters and sons-in-law, Elizabeth and Rudy Carver, Phoenix, Ariz., Carol Ann and Woody Taylor, Columbia, S.C., and Mary Etta Elliott and Bob Schaff, Elizabethton; a son and daughter-in-law, Russell "Rusty" and Teresa Shadoan, Birmingham, Ala.; and a sister, Lucy Floyd, Peachtree City, Ga. Six grandchildren, two great-granddaughters and several nieces and nephews also survive.

SHADOAN -- Funeral services for Russell L. Shadoan, 81, 1411 Milligan Highway, Johnson City, who died Sunday, January 26, 2003, will be conducted at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, January 29, in the Chapel of Peace of Tetrick Funeral Home with Mr. Rudy Carver, minister, officiating. Masonic Rites by Watauga Masonic Lodge will follow the funeral service. Music will be under the direction of David Arney, organist, and Julie Taylor Eadie, soloist. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Chapel of Peace of Tetrick Funeral Home. Friends may also call at the residence of a daughter, Mary Etta Elliott, 126 Thomas Lincoln Place, Elizabethton. Active pallbearers will be Bob Schaff, Woody Taylor, Paul Mottern, Sam Hopson, Earle Eadie, Ben Carver and Jim Hughes. Entombment will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, January 30, in the Mausoleum of Peace at Happy Valley Memorial Park with Military Honors by the Captain Lynn H. Folsom VFW Post #2166. Everyone will meet at the funeral home at 9 a.m. Thursday to go in procession to the cemetery.
