Dear Minna:

Was glad to hear about your eyes and know that it is a relief all the way round for you both. Am sure Fred had his hands full and was happy to have you back on the job again. We have not had final word from Emma but am sure that she is not disappointed. She has gone through so much on account of her hearing. Three sisters were deaf, the round cartilage in the ear solidifies as time goes on but she has seemed to get a long so well. They are now weathering the storm over their son, John Jay Johns, Jr., and meg, his wife, maritial [sic] troubles, all John's fault, I feel sure and another woman. meg is a nice girl and they have four lovely children, incidentally John Jay Johns III, one of them. I do hope there will not be a divorce, meg will not agree. John is a person always far beyond his years, always has been and she is older than he. Chemical Engineer with the Gulf Refining Co., in Port Arthur, Texas. He really is smart though.

I wrote to Mary Gladden and Winston about if they had an of [sic] the account books but have not heard. Am sure Winston is still trying to figure who I am. Mary Gladden may be away visiting as it is vacation time. I often wonder about the home and how she will dispose of it. do you know if Matt made any directions? The children probably do not want it as none of them live in St. Charles. My brother, Jack, is the only one who could afford to buy it but he may not even be here when the time comes. I do not suppose there is much property left around it. There was so much but I believe Matt disposed of it which is correct, too much to handle.

I have not hear from Mrs. Leathers in some time, her mother was facing an eye operation and it may have taken place.

I do hope you all have an enjoyable vacation and pleasant going. Arthur made a trip to Louisiana in June, just to see -- something like the dirt idea, i guess!! He has two fine looking sons, one just 29 and the other 27, will be 28 in January. One is an electrical engineer and the other, petroleum engineer, one works for Public Service Board here and the other in Houston for Texaco. The one that lives here is very offish, on account of the divorce which his mother got but he was very impressionable then. Would be nice to hear from you when you return, Love to Lois and you both. Florence

P. S. Sort of choppy letter but wanted to get it to you before you leave.
