Dear Minna and Fred:
I have been thinking I should write to you and tell you that I did not mean anything personal in my letter. I have just not been able to reconcile things and I know my brother just gave up. He had tried so hard for so long and was so dependent on others for help and encouragement and he was always worse when it was not forthcoming. I have appreciated your letters and we were so happy when we did hear from you as we hear so little from the relatives even our own near kin. I hope you are still happily located in your work and it is a wonderful thing, the church now. There is so much going on at my church that I cannot keep up with it. I do not try. We have been in touch with a Mrs. Leathers here who has been to Virginia looking up her Johns relatives and I have been happy to give her some names you sent me. But she saw Winston Johns in Virginia and she told me she had more than he did. She is coming to see us soon and if there is anything new we will let you know. What have you done about the Gauss end of your family. I have tried and tried to locate the "TUTTS" (Tutt) but it is like picking peebles [sic] off the beach.
I do not wish you to be angry with me, but I still strike our at any mention of my brother, especially his being better off which I hope he is but you only asked about him. and I should not have done it.
This small house of ours is more trouble than the large one. It may be we have too many things but one just cannot part with everything. We even have to keep the clothes we are not currently wearing out in a storeroom.
We have not had any news of Lois. Did you know that Glenday's daughter, Caroline and her husband live in Miami. We thought they would settle in California.
The Postman just brought your card and I now feel that you did not get hurt so I am glad of it.
Arthur's son, Arthur Clifford is here for one week for Christmas, he stays with his mother. He works for Texaco in Liberty, Texas. John the other one is with AC Spark Plug Division of General Motors, in Milwaukee. They are very different, those two. Whenever you se Bonnie Lemly please remember me to her. She was always such a pretty girl.
Thank you so much for your card. With kindest remembrances to you both and with love,
Florence
