Letter
Monday Dec 31st 1900.
Dear Henry
Your letter & Photograph reached me Saturday night for which I am much obliged -- the Photograph is a good likeness, the eyes are especially good, so life like and I can see the eyelashes, which is not common in a picture -- the face is fuller than when I saw you last -- perhaps you have improved since then -- I am glad the turkey proved to be tender and good and that you had a pleasant Christmas -- Ours was a quiet and lonely one -- Sis has plenty of turkeys, but as there are only three of us we could not undertake a turkey, especially as Sis was not ready for Christmas -- she was well enough but had just got her temporary set of teeth and could not eat with comfort -- Eugene brought some nice oysters and she enjoyed them -- Robert sent me a box of flowers, a small box of candy and some Japan tea -- I hope he will come next month and that you wil be able to meet him here --
You will be glad to learn that we have kept even with the world this year Eugene has rented 60 acres of the eastern end of the farm to Joel Bradford for $250 cash -- with this money we have paid our interest and taxes -- have ten fat hogs to sell and our corn crop on hand --
I hope Lizzie and the others have recovered their health and will have a pleasant New year -- this is the last day of the year and the Century -- in former times I little thought I would out live this century - but I am here for a little longer --
With love to you and all yours, Mother
