HEADQUARTERS DEPARTMENT OF TEXAS
Office of Inspector of Small-Arms Practice,
SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS, Jan. 22nd, 1894

My dear Mr. Gauss --

I do not like to send you these resolutions of the Session -- I prefer to fancy that you are out on a business trip, only to be gone a few days. The idea of losing you has not yet taken hold of me, and yet I must come to it. Indeed, you hardly know how we all feel over your going away. Still if it proves good for you and your family we should feel resigned knowing that it is for the best - We reaised about $900.00 on our Texas National Bank debt. This does not include our claim against the bank. This is doing very well - Everything in San Antonio is about the same as when you left. I see a good many new faces on the streets. Went to Church yesterday for the first time in six weeks and enjoyed one of Mr. Morey's helpful sermons. Banning cards. My family are all well. Mrs Myers sends her warmest regards to Mrs. Gauss -

Wishing you all prosperity I remain, as ever,

Very Sincerely yours, John Ellyus
