THE REV. ROBERT D. CHAMBLESS
The Rev. Robert D. Chambless was born April 18, 1922 in St. Petersburg, Florida to Mr. And Mrs. Guy Chambless. He attended public schools in Miami, Florida and graduated from Miami High School at the age of 16. He was a graduate of the University of Miami and received his theological degree from Brite Divinity School at Texas Christian University in 1950.
Rev. Chambless served in the United States Army Air corps from 1943-1945 engaged in combat in the Pacific theater.
On April 16, 1949, he married Lois Winston Simmons from Miami, Florida. To this union were born four children: Susan, Bob, John and Paul. He is survived by his wife, Lois, Susan and her children, Jonathan and Ann-Marie of Maryland Heights, Missouri; Bob, his wife, Jeni and their children, Natalie and Jack of Simpson, Illinois; John of Raymore, Missouri and his children, Shawn, Richard and Melissa; and Paul, his wife, Linda, and their two children, Ben and Mitch of Fenton, Missouri.
Rev. Chambless was an ordained minister of the Christian Churches (Disciples of Christ) and his first pastorate was at St. Nicholas Park Christian Church of Jacksonville, Florida. Other pastorates include: First Christian Church, Russellville, Arkansas, Trinity Christian Church of Dallas, Texas, Memorial Blvd. Christian Church, Dallas, Texas and First Christian Church of Fayetteville, Arkansas.
In 1969, Rev. Chambless became administrator of St. Louis Christian Home for Children for three years and then filled several positions in the Treasury Department for the National Benevolent Association for ten years, after which he retired. During these years, Rev. Chambless served part-time at churches in Blue Mound and Barnett, Illinois. After retirement, he served interim ministries in Gainesville and Moberly, Missouri, and interim administrative positions for the National Benevolent Association in Portland, Oregon and Ames, Iowa.
In 2002, Rev. and Mrs. Chambless moved to the Foxwood Springs Living Center in Raymore, Missouri, where he was residing at the time of his death. He was a member of the Raymore Christian Church, an avid bridge player and a life-long liberal Democrat.
