Biography
Dates are approximate. Hellen was born in Scotland. came with her parents and brothers and sister, Ann Glenday to South Carolina(?), and then to Missouri in 1816. After her mother died, about 1822, she and her father returned to Scotland and settled in New Rattray, Perthshire. She married John Butchart, and had a son, James. She and Anne Glenday (Durfee) carried on a decades-long correspondence, much of which was returned to Missouri by her granddaughter, Ada.
