My dear Anne

The Benjamin Borden (He moved south from R. I.) belonged to one of the early Generations in this Country. I did not know know about the buffalo calf, but know that he owned a vast lot of land in Virginia. His notes were the most stable Currency in the County where he lived.

I don't know anything new in the way of our human history. I have been toiling to find which man of a number that had the same name here in Delaware County, belongs to Elizabeth. I am having my troubles.

We are having a most beautiful Autumn. only .03 of an inch of rain during October so the leaves are Coming down slowly and nicely and not washed down in a wet mass.

Dicky goes to Swarthmore Prep. School is in the bottom class, plays a junior boot ball team and Knows all there is to know of the Game. We have word from Farmington that makes us think that both of the girls will go there next fall. Ruth will be pretty young, but she would be beyond words lonely here without Virginia, so she will go too -- probably the loneliness will be ours.

Elizabeth is having a siege of rheumatism in her knees which is very hard on her. I don't know what to do to help matters. I think the doctors know little of how to help it.

We hear from Scotland quite often. They are all well. I expect their summer was not nearly so pleasant as it was when we were there. They complain of the wet and Cold.

I wonder if George went up to see them.

I took the picture this Summer. it is pretty fair.

Best love to you all Shirley
